The Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria (EMSON) was founded in Lagos, Nigeria in 1978 by a group of Endocrinologists. EMSON is a professional body that comprises Endocrinologists and Physicians of all medical specialties, Surgeons, Laboratory Scientists, Anatomists, Biochemists, Physiologists, Medical microbiologists, Nurses and Medical students who are interested in Endocrinology and Metabolism as well as other related subjects.
The membership of EMSON has grown steadily over the years to about two hundred (200) members comprising both fellows, fellows in training and people in the academia and corporate organizations. The society in her efforts to meet up with her mission, has set up several study groups to cover different areas of endocrinology and diabetes mellitus. These study groups are expected to design, and execute collaborative researches and disseminate their findings during the scientific conferences of the society.
African Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism was founded in 1990 as an official journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism Society of Nigeria (EMSON), formerly known as Nigerian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (NSEM).
As the title of the journal suggests, it is open to all areas of research in endocrinology, both experimental (animal and human) and clinical endocrinology.
It features papers dealing with molecular and cellular biology, animal and human physiology, clinical laboratory practice and metabolism. As the journal addresses
All endocrinological subspecialities, it will emphasize reviews in order to keep the readers informed about the state-of-the-art in fields more distant from their own.
African Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism will also publish supplements
The African Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism strives for excellence. It depends on the quality of the manuscripts received. All readers are requested to submit high quality papers to the journal.
We hope that African Journal of Endocrinology will be attractive to its readers and will serve serve as a widely accepted International forum for scientific exchange in endocrinology and metabolism.

Digital Archiving
Wolters Kluwer Medknow provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS.
Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website.
CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain their own archive of content from Wolters Kluwer Medknow and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware.
Ahead of Print policy
Articles published online under the Ahead of Print model are considered published and can be cited and quoted using the DOI as the reference source. Wolters Kluwer Medknow has a policy that changes will not be made after publication of an article without following accepted procedures for making corrections to the scientific record.
Advertisements
While advertisements are crucial to this journal to be able to keep all content free for everyone, ethical considerations are in place to ensure the integrity of the journal and its content:
- "Pop-up" and "banner" ads appear on a random, rotating basis. The advertiser has no control or input over the pages where their ads appear.
- The Editorial Board has full and final approval over the content of all advertisements.
- Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.
The African Journal of Endocrinology and
Metabolism (AJEM) (ISSN 116-6495) is a
biomedical peer-reviewed journal with
international circulation. It publishes Reports
of Original Work, preferably briefly
described, in the fields of endocrinology,
metabolism and related subjects. Reviews are
authoritative, evidence-based articles on
topical subjects. Submission in this category
is generally by invitation; however,
unsolicited manuscripts are also welcome.
Authors are encouraged to discuss an outline
of their idea with the editor-in-chief of AJEM.

Clinical Trial: An article concerning a drug
evaluation.
Editorial: A brief commentary on subject(s)
of interest.
Case Report: A brief individual write-up of
interest, especially one of an uncommon
presentation.
Cameo: A short report of not more than 800
words; explained by not more than 3
illustrations.
Correspondence:
Short contribution, notes or letter to the
editors mostly in response to a previously
published article in AJEM.

Book samples for review should be sent to the
editor. Please note that books and monographs
